New Single & New Video for Ring Them Bells

In celebration of Bob Dylan’s 78th Birthday, and in advance of the release of our new album Just like a Woman - Songs of Bob Dylan, my first with backing band The Ramshackle Parade, is our first single ‘Ring Them Bells’; a gospel-folk-rock spin on Dylan’s cut from his 1989 album ‘Oh Mercy’.

Behind the Songs and Making of Just Like A Woman - Songs of Bob Dylan:

Our version of Ring Them Bells takes on a gospel rock groove. When producer, Dale Murray played the piano and organ parts, he followed the approach of ‘organist’ Al Kooper on “Like a Rolling Stone”. Kooper, who was not an organ player but wanted very much to be on the record, didn’t know how to play the song and played late on all the chord changes, creating a signature sound.

“I didn’t learn the chords,” says Dale, “just kinda played along - that was my approach on the organ and piano on everything here.”

We loved watching Chris Braydon prep and play the guitar break on this track - an eel’s nest of cables and pedals to create the dual guitar lead that sounds like a waterfall and the result is a great take with a fun loose feel!

The intro on the album cut and video is a short guitar piece of Dylan’s “Duquesne Whistle” from ‘Tempest’ - played by Bill Preeper and distorted by Chris.

The music video is an introduction to the Ramshackle Parade and a look into the making of the album – it’s a combination of footage captured during the recording sessions at Farm House Studio in Port Howe, NS, and live footage filmed by Jordan Mattie during a performance in front of a packed house at the Five & Dime in Saint John, NB. We had an absolute blast making this record together and we are super excited for it’s release!

Hope you enjoy!
Happy Birthday Bob!
